The ancient Maya knew yogic practices and used them for envisioning, gaining esoteric wisdom and working with natural forces. Called Yok'hah in Yucatec Maya, this word derives from yok' (above or on top of) and hah (truth)—essentially the meaning of the Sanskrit word yoga (yoked to God/higher truth, divine union). Yok'hah Maya includes philosophy, cosmovision and techniques based in ancient Maya knowledge and traditions, with practices including breath control, hand signs, postures, sacred sounds and meditations. These bring control of body processes and refine spiritual capacities, guiding us to live in greater harmony with cycles of our Mother Earth, Father Sun and the cosmos.
